  We filed through H&R Block this year because as of January 28th 2011, their website still promoted RAL (Return Anticipation Loans) that would come in about three days. After we filed we were told they didn't offer them any more because of government policy, but we could expect our money in 8-15 days. She guaranteed our money to be deposited 2/11/2011. That day rolls around, and no money. We make several phone calls to this location before we are told that "we neglected to give her information when filing our return." Untrue- as we clearly stated that we'd previously taken the home buyers tax credit and still owned the home, but whatever. She claimed she was calling a "manager" and she'd get back to us, hoping we could get the money that day. When we called back a few hours later, she claimed that she got the voicemail but she left a message. My husband, already upset, decided to call their 1-800 number. Come to find out, our return had been rejected the day we filed and yet we hadn't been notified (AT ALL!!!!) by this woman or H&R block. The woman kept giving us the run around until we decided to go down and just get our W2's to file some where else. When we asked if we could get the number of the so called manager, we where told she had "no idea" what we were referring to, that there was no such manager, and she'd never told us there was one. To add insult to injury, we also found out that she'd opened our file already (fixed her mistake when she saw she'd made one) and sent it off- guaranteeing we couldn't take our business else where. To make a very long story short, it's March 5th and we just got our money yesterday. The woman was very unprofessional, rude, and a complete liar. I will never again file through this company- as I'd rather have a headache trying to do them myself than deal with the complete lack of customer service there. And if you still choose to participate in that location, see someone other than Dina. At least then you MAY! receive something right above horrible service.

  I asked for some assistance in helping with my return. Being a mariner and working at sea, I fell into a strange situation and wasn't sure if I qualified for an exemption - an exemption which would result in a significant amount back. The lady I spoke with was not sure and called their "mariner specialist" at the other branch, only to get her voice mail. She said she'd get back to me with an answer... Days go by and I patiently call this location, speaking with the same woman. "Just one more phone call, I promise," she says.... Again, days go by and here it is, April 8th and still, she doesn't know. Its been one month and now, its too late. I would have greatly appreciated an honest "I really don't know, you'd be better off paying the taxes now and amending them later." I would have been completely fine with this, but this woman wasted my time and showed me that H&R Block doesn't have qualified professionals representing them - especially with Hampton Roads being one of the Mid-Atlantic's largest community of mariners. I do not suggest this location at all.

  I would like to commend an associate, Stephanie, at the H&R Block location at 237 Hanbury Road, #18, Chesapeake, VA. A couple of weeks ago I walked in to this location and Stephanie assisted me with my question regarding a Virginia State tax amendment needed for a previous year. Stephanie educated me to be aware that our Chesapeake City Treasurer's Office here in Chesapeake on Cedar Road would actually take care of an amendment for me. I am grateful to Stephanie for her kindness and guidance. What a credit to the staff at this location she is and I thank you,, Stephanie!
